Game of Thrones: Emilia Clarke blames Battle of Winterfell for Daenerys Targaryen transforming to Mad Queen

During the last war, as Cersei Lannister finally came to her senses and realised that the battle was lost, she rang the bells to surrender. However, instead of claiming her throne in a peaceful manner, Daenerys Targaryen lives up to her father's reputation and has her Mad Queen mode set to 100. As we have seen in the fifth episode of Game of Thrones Season 8, Dany destroys King's Landing in its entirety and no one was spared, not even the innocent!

However, Emilia Clarke, who immortalised Khaleesi in GoT and was a fan favourite to win the Iron Throne, defends the Mother of Dragon's actions in a Game of Thrones Season 8 behind-the-scenes featurette titled When Winter Falls. "In the actual battle itself, Dany’s impatient to get in there. She’s like, gunning for a fight. She’s ready to take this guy down. She’s a fierce warrior, although you don’t see a lot of hand-to-hand combat with her, she’s ready to fight to the death," Emilia explains.

"Especially at this point, there’s a lot of anger – she’s got all of that in her to put into this fight. It’s not just the matter at hand, but I think because of everything at an emotional level that’s gone on, she’s able to go into her cold-blooded side," Clarke adds.
