Grammys 2021: How the socially distanced awards ceremony scored points over a virtual one

Grammys 2021 ditched the idea of a virtual ceremony and gave us a rather successful socially distanced event.

Grammys 2021 is one of the most prestigious ceremonies celebrating the best of music and this year the award ceremony was a rather different one. Unlike, other major awards such as the Golden Globes 2021 and Emmys 2020 which went virtual due to COVID-19 norms, Grammys were live-streamed from a physical location with the attendees. The carefully crafted socially-distanced ceremony was held at Staples Center in LA  along with a lively host like Trevor Noah who made sure to keep the morale high, all through the event.

One of the biggest nights of the music industry saw iconic artists such as Beyonce, Jay-Z, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and more attended the ceremony. Apart from their gorgeous outfits, the masks were the only accessory that was donned by one and all.

As someone who has followed Grammys over the years, the 2021 ceremony sure seemed different but luckily not for the worse. After the disastrous technical glitches as seen during Golden Globes 2021, it felt like the Recording Academy decided they wouldn't put their fans through such an ordeal.

From separate entrances for artists to socially distanced performances on the massive stage, Grammys 2021 showed everyone how we can still celebrate in the new normal.  The usual hugs and kisses among winners and presenters were replaced with elbow bumps and it was a kind reminder of the times we live in. Let's look at what made Grammys 2021's socially-distanced ceremony a success.

Trevor Noah's 'Not a Zoom Background' Reminder

At the very beginning of the event, we saw host Trevor Noah deliver his monologue where he stressed the joy of finally going out and also assured the viewers how he wasn't showing a Zoom background but in fact was physically present at the Grammys venue.

The Multiple Stage Format

While each year, I look forward to the performances more than the awards, this year I was surprised to find the stage setting even more appealing with all the artists coming together and enjoying each other's performances on the socially distanced arena with multiple stages as opposed to the usual designated spot.

No Glitches in the acceptance speeches

With no virtual element involved, the acceptance speeches felt more personal and heartfelt as we saw the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, H.E.R, Beyonce, and others give some amazing speeches
