Grey’s Anatomy fam, we have some good news for you! Just when you thought Seattle had seen every medical crisis imaginable, the series mastermind Shonda Rhimes dropped a massive bombshell. It’s official that ABC is coming with a brand-new, untitled Texas-based spinoff of the popular American medical drama television series. Read on to know all about it!
What we know about Grey’s Anatomy spinoff
Recently, the makers gave a green signal to a new spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy that will be set in Texas. Following the success of its other spinoffs, Private Practice and the recently concluded Station 19, this will be the fourth series in the legendary Grey’s universe. Grey’s Anatomy Texas spinoff is slated to premiere in 2027. The exact release date is yet to be revealed.
The new and upcoming series is described as an edgy, gritty drama that shifts focus from a bustling metropolitan city to the dark realities of rural healthcare. According to CBC, the show will follow an elite medical team working at a rural West Texas medical center, described as ‘the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.’
Current Grey's showrunner Meg Marinis is co-creating the show alongside Shonda Rhimes. Ellen Pompeo will also executive-produce the spinoff, along with Betsy Beers. As of now, no official trailer or teaser has been released. Fans can expect its first look closer to when the show airs in 2027.
This upcoming spinoff will reportedly not revolve around already established Grey's Anatomy characters. Apparently, the audience is expected to see a fresh ensemble cast of doctors and medical staff.
The series is currently being fast-tracked for a mid-season 2027 premiere on ABC in the US. For fans in India, Grey’s Anatomy has traditionally been streaming on JioHotstar. Hence, the Indian audiences can expect the Texas spinoff to premiere on the streaming platform simultaneously with the US release in 2027.
The network is reportedly planning a tight, high-intensity 9-episode first season.
