It has been a roller coaster ride for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The renowned franchise has been James Gunn's baby. The filmmaker had laid the foundation with Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 and took the franchise to a new height in 2017 with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. However, the franchise took a huge hit when James Gunn was fired as the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Disney fired the filmmaker after old offensive tweets from James Gunn's Twitter account resurfaced. However, the Mouse House eventually rehired the filmmaker.

While there have been reports sharing updates from GotG Vol 3, Marvel Studios and James Gunn have provided a concrete update on the movie today. The filmmaker recently took to Twitter to share the current update about the project. The filmmaker shared an update on the movie when a fan tweeted to him asking a release date on the project.

"Why no Guardians 3 announcement at SDCC? Yes I’m being impatient. I need a date," the tweet read. Gunn retweeted the query and shared that the movie is in the works. However, it will have to wait until Suicide Squad 2. "Sorry to disappoint. Guardians Vol. 3 IS happening, but I am finishing The Suicide Squad first," he said.

Fans of the filmmaker would be aware that when Disney fired Gunn, Warner Bros roped him in for a DC movie. The director was brought on board of the Suicide Squad sequel. The DC Film is slated to release in 2021. Idris Elba, Margot Robbie and Jai Courtenay are teaming up for the super-villain movie. So it seems like it will be long before we see Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel reunite for the Guardians movie.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige teased Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 at the Marvel panel in Hall H at the San Diego Comic-Con 2019. According to a Comicbook.com report, Feige teased that he did not get a chance to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy 3. We hope the movie goes to the floors soon.
