Unless you've been living under the rock, you would have come across the several speculations that Idris Elba was one of the frontrunners to play the next James Bond. The Thor actor was one of the fan favourite choices to replace Daniel Craig in the 007 series. However, as of the recent update that Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch will play the next 007 agent in the James Bond series. However, this did not stop the Hobbs & Shaw makers to pull off an "I am black James Bond" statement in the Fast & Furious spinoff movie.

Elba plays the villain in Fast & Furious Present: Hobbs & Shaw. The handsome baddie will pit against Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Jason Statham. The latter two will be reprising their Fast & Furious roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw for the spinoff. During the making, the actor was handed over the script with a line that deemed his character as the "black James Bond." However, Elba wasn't game for it. Dwayne revealed in an interview with Variety on the red carpet of Hobbs & Shaw premiere that Elba vetoed the idea of the statement and replaced James Bond with Superman. "The original line was, ‘what if we say, you’re the Black James Bond?’ But Idris was like, ‘No… It’s too close to what everybody’s talking about," Johnson revealed.

Johnson went on to joke that the statement of Black Superman was originally his idea. However, everyone in the team are taking the credit now. "Everyone loves ‘the black Superman’ line. Everyone’s taking credit for it – Idris, our director, our producers, I’m sure, Jason [Statham]…but I came up with that. I said, ‘What about the black Superman?’ And everyone’s like, ‘Great!’ Now everyone takes credit," he said.

Black James Bond or black Superman, we can do with both. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw releases on August 2.
