Fans and gaming enthusiasts went into an absolute meltdown when reports claimed that filming for the highly anticipated third season of HBO’s The Last of Us had been cancelled. Some also speculated that the network was pulling the plug on the post-apocalyptic drama television series.
But upon investigation, it was revealed that the show is far from over. The series has simply hit a temporary roadblock. The panic began when eagle-eyed fans spotted an update on the official British Columbia film and television production directory. The Emmy-winning series, which is allegedly being shot under the secret working title Calm Current, in Vancouver, has officially halted all shooting activities.
According to reports, The Last of Us Season 3 entered a mandatory hiatus beginning June 1, 2026. While the pause was assumed to be the end of the show, industry insiders have confirmed that the break is entirely normal.
Cameras initially began rolling on the massive production on March 2, 2026, with the shoot expected to continue till November 27, 2026. Adding to the discussion, a user mentioned on social media that such short breaks between shooting are standard, as it allows incoming directors to prep with the crew and reset the sets.
Insider buzz also suggests that the hiatus could be because of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in the Vancouver area. Having said that, the makers have not put out any public statement regarding the exact cause of the pause.
But the good news is that the hiatus is temporary. Filming is officially scheduled to resume on June 28, 2026, and the crew will continue shooting through late November 2026. This will keep the series on track for its projected 2027 release.
