Back in 2020, Jennifer Lopez had taken to Instagram to talk about a film named 'Draw With Me'. The film was especially close to the popstar's heart as it was based on her trans nibling (a gender-neutral term for a niece/nephew) Brendon Scholl and their story. Ever since the release of the documentary short, the film has made noise at film festivals around the world, was screened at the United Nations on Transgender Health and now is an official Oscar entry in the Documentary Short Subject category.

In a recent interview with E!, Brendon opened up on how the film came about and their aunt Jennifer Lopez's support. The film which revolves around Brendon coming out as a transgender youth and their art seems to have struck a chord with many. Speaking about their decision on saying yes to the film, Brendon told E! that it was an easy one.

"The big reason that I felt comfortable telling my story is because I knew that when I was just starting to discover who I was and figuring out myself, I would have wanted a story like mine that I could go and see," they said.

Speaking about aunt Jennifer's support, Brendon revealed that he started hearing from people with whom he had never interacted before. They said, "People who I feel, particularly with my aunt, might not have had exposure to trans people and to the struggles of trans people are getting exposure to it and are starting to ask questions that they probably wouldn't even think of beforehand. The first step to any progress is asking questions in my mind. So, to have someone with as much reach as she does talk about it, I think, is a huge step."

Jennifer Lopez had taken to Instagram last year to share a video in which she spoke about Brendon's film and urged fans to watch it.
