JJ Abrams Reveals What Makes Anne Hathaway and Evan McGregor’s The End of Oak Street Different From Jurassic Park

The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, is slated to release in theaters in the United States on August 14, 2026. Directed by David Robert Mitchell, the film's co-producer, JJ Abrams, has explained why he believes the movie differs from what Jurassic Park did years ago.

Speaking about the film, JJ Abrams said, “I think people are hungry for new stories, original stories, and to me, the undeniable appeal of this is the fact that it takes place in suburbia.”
The filmmaker added, “I love the Jurassic movies as much as anyone, but those films, for the most part, take place in these beautiful jungles, these distant islands. David’s whole approach here was the juxtaposition of the absolute mundane suburban family life, swing sets and ice-cream trucks, and above-ground pools and school buses, and dinosaurs. If there’s any part of you that is excited by what you saw in the trailers, I can promise that the movie will deliver on everything.”

The End of Oak Street follows a family that begins to notice unusual happenings in their neighborhood involving the appearance of prehistoric creatures. After a mysterious cosmic event uproots Oak Street from suburbia and transports the neighborhood to a place inhabited by prehistoric creatures, the family soon discovers that their survival depends on sticking together as they navigate their now-unrecognizable surroundings.
Whether they manage to survive the ordeal is explored in the film.
The End of Oak Street stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor in the lead roles, alongside Maisy Stella, Christian Convery, Jordan Alexa Davis, P.J. Byrne, Chris Coy, and others.
Written, directed, and co-produced by David Robert Mitchell, the sci-fi survival film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is also set to release in India in August 2026.
Apart from Abrams and Mitchell, Hannah Minghella, Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper serve as co-producers. Additionally, Michael Giacchino has composed the original soundtrack, Michael Gioulakis serves as the cinematographer, and John Axelrad has edited the film.
