Joe Biden has finally taken office! Now the historic team is officialy--President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris! Both trailblazers made history as they were both just sworn in on in the U.S. Capitol building today on January 20, 2021. Both the political figures were accompanied by their respective spouses, Dr. Jill Biden and Douglas Emhoff. The Vice President is making history today as the first female, first African American and first Asian America Vice President in United States history.
As soon as they were sworn in, cheering crowds took over which was followed by performances by some many big-name celebrities. Jennifer Lopez performed the iconic “This Land Is Your Land” at the ceremony. During the performance, she also briefly delivered a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish, as well as yelling out “Let’s get loud,” a reference to her hit single.
Lady Gaga was also amongst the performers as she delivered “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the historic ceremony today. Just moments before the ceremony, the pop icon tweeted: “Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honour. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change—between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning. My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land. Respectfully and kindly, Lady Gaga.”
