Over the past few days, ace filmmakers Martin Scorcese and Francis Ford Coppola have been speaking up against the trend of more and more comic books inspired movies. The Irishman director kicked off a debate when he said that Marvel movies are "not cinema." The Oscar-winning filmmaker went on to recently admit he was worried that young movie-goers would confuse superhero movies for cinema. The Godfather director too shared the same sentiment when he deemed Marvel Cinematic Universe movies as "despicable."

Ever since the controversy unfolded, several Marvel stars have defended the studio. From Robert Downey Jr, James Gunn to Samuel L Jackson and Taika Waititi, several MCU stars have shared their stand on the debate. Now, Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch has shared his take on Martin Scorsese's comment.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show, the Avengers: Endgame star said he agrees with Scorsese's criticism against Marvel. "I know there's been a lot of debate recently with some very fine filmmakers coming to the fore saying these film franchises are taking over everything. But, lucky us actors who get to do both kinds of variety, at either polarity [in terms] of budgeting," he explained.

"I agree, we don't want one king to rule it all and have a monopoly and all that, and it's hopefully not the case and we should really look into continuing to support auteur filmmakers at every level," Cumberbatch added.
