Michael Jackson is a singing and dancing legend who has ruled millions of hearts globally for decades. Multiple generations of families and friends have relished in his charm, and amid countless controversies that have surrounded his career even after his passing, Antoine Fuqua decided to create a biographical film that would give a deeper look into his world before stardom. Capturing his time with the Jackson 5 in the 1960s as well as the start of his solo career a few years later, Michael is paid tribute to by his very own nephew, Jafaar Jackson, who embodies the star in the film.

Apart from Jafaar, the other cast members of the film Michael include Nia Long, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Laura Harrier, Jessica Sula, Mike Myers, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Here are what the reviews say so far on social media.

User AxelTalksFilm said, “As a die hard Michael Jackson fan, I would be the first to admit if #Michael was bad and I would also be the first to admit that he deserved a better portrayal of his story, and that it didn't live up to his name. But I loved it, and thankfully critics don't make movies successful, the fans do. And they will show up in spades off of his name alone, and the word will spread immediately that the critics got it wrong. The audience score, cinema score, and box office will be the true reflections of what a wonderful love letter this one was.”

Many were accepting of some of the criticism coming the film's way.

Meanwhile, another named BellaDochee reflected on the difficulty of making a film on someone with so much history, quoting a recent Kat Graham updated on being edited out of the project, “This is why making a detailed Michael Jackson biopic will always be difficult. So many people in his life were major celebrities who may not want to be depicted in a film or series. The team behind the Michael movie did an impressive job telling the story despite those constraints.”

Some were more skeptical.
