Obsession 2: Director Curry Barker eyes a new idea for a sequel
In a recent interaction with The Hollywood Reporter, director Curry Barker revealed that he has an idea for a follow-up project but is not interested in moving forward with it immediately.
The filmmaker said, “I don’t want to go straight into Obsession 2. I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say. I’m not saying it has to be five, six years from now. But I think people would be just as excited for it if it came a little down the road. It’s a whirlwind, and I’m trying to figure it out.”
Discussing the concept further, Barker explained that the One Wish Willow opens the door to numerous standalone stories rather than a direct continuation. “This just happens to be a premise where there is a lot more to be done. It's not really a sequel," Barker said. “It's just a new guy or girl with a One Wish Willow: What does she wish for, and how does that change her life? There are so many stories to be told.”
Obsession follows Bear Bailey, who secretly loves his friend and co-worker Nikki Freeman. After obtaining a magical item called the “One Wish Willow,” he wishes for Nikki to love him more than anyone else in the world.
The wish works, but Nikki’s affection soon develops into an overwhelming fixation as her emotions and memories become distorted. As Bear struggles to undo the curse, he realizes its consequences are far more severe than he expected. How their relationship evolves and the price they must pay form the core of the narrative.
Obsession stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette in the lead roles, alongside Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter, Haley Fitzgerald, and others in key roles. Written, edited, and directed by Curry Barker, the film features music composed by Rock Burwell, while Taylor Clemons handled the cinematography.
