The much-awaited Oscars 2021 nominations are finally out and while not everyone is a winner there are some great firsts. This year's awards season has been dominated by late actor Chadwick Boseman and it was a repeat at the Oscars 2021 nominations. Presenters Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas revealed that Chadwick had received his first Oscar nod, albeit posthumously.

The Black Panther has been nominated in the Best Actor category alongside Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Gary Oldman (Mank) and Steven Yeun (Minari). Chadwick received the nomination for his last film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom alongside his co-star Viola Davis.

On the other hand, Viola too created Oscars history as she became the most nominated Black actress ever. Viola's Best Actress Oscars nomination is the fourth one in her acting career and also became the only Black woman with two Best Actress nominations in Hollywood history.

Viola has been nominated for Best Actress alongside Andra Day (The United States v. Billie Holiday), Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland) and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman).
