It has been almost nine years since Prince William slipped in on Kate Middleton's finger. The Duke of Cambridge placed a breath-taking ring from Princess Diana's jewellery collection. The royal blood presented Kate with a ring featuring a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds which is set on an 18-karat white gold. Princess of Wales left behind the ring for her future daughter-in-law. Will decided to present Kate with the ring in Kenya. However, the days before he could present the ring to his now wife, Will never let go of the ring for a single moment.

Speaking during the engagement interview in 2010, William revealed that he held on to the ring so close because he was scared he would lose it. He told ITV that he carried the ring in his rucksack for three weeks before he put it on Kate's finger. “I’d been carrying it around with me in my rucksack for about three weeks before that and I literally would not let it go. Everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it, because I knew this thing, if it disappeared, I would be in a lot of trouble," he said in the interview.

Kate chipped in that she hoped she looks after it the way he did. "I just hope I look after it! It’s very very special," she said. "If she loses it, she’s in big trouble," William quipped. The Express UK report reveals that Prince Charles proposed Diana with the iconic ring that cost £28,000 back then. The ring today is valued at around £300,000. The ring became a controversial topic as Diana had picked out the ring herself from a catalogue by Garrard jewellers, which was a un-royal act.

Diana has left behind a note, instructing what must be done to her jewellery if she dies. "I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it. I leave the exact division of the jewellery to your discretion." Prince Harry and William have obeyed Princess Diana's orders.
