Robert Pattinson wants his Batman to be 'frightening': I want it to be something in which you lose yourself
He might be luring audiences to witness the events unfolding in The Lighthouse, but Robert Pattinson is already planning his preparations for The Batman. Earlier this summer, Warner Bros confirmed the Twilight actor would don the Dark Knight cape for the Matt Reeves directorial. The actor joins the league of Ben Affleck and Christian Bale as he plays the new Batman. While Pattinson has been busy with The Lighthouse and Christopher Nolan's Tenet, he definitely has Batman on his mind.
We previously reported about Pattinson confessing he is in the early stages of Batman preparations. Now, the actor has spilled more beans about his preparations. Speaking to BBC, Pattinson confessed he wants his Batman to be "frightening," as against the run-in-the-mill portrayal of the DC superhero.
"Batman was kind of a surprise to me. Like, now that I’m starting to get into it, I don’t wanna approach it as if it’s that kind of big studio thing where all your really doing is thinking about your trailer. I wanna approach it in exactly the same way. I want it to be frightening, I want it to be something which you lose yourself in. I think it’s more difficult to do because it’s such a familiar character to lots of people, but I think if you can really find a place to really lose yourself in it than I think it’s really exciting," he said.
It seems like a different approach to tried and tested superhero movies is the theme in Hollywood. Pattinson's new statement comes after Todd Philips channeled a different, never-before-seen version of Joker with the help of Joaquin Phoenix. The movie has been shattering box office records since its release. It is to see Pattinson's different approach to the character.
Meanwhile, Pattinson spoke to Access Hollywood and revealed his Batman voice could be inspired by his The Lighthouse co-star Willem Dafoe. “Willem’s voice in this is quite inspiring for it to be honest. It is pretty similar to the voice I’m gonna do. […] I think Batman has a sort of pirate-y kind of voice. I think that would really suit him," he said.
