Taiki Waititi returns to the Thor universe to helm the fourth Thor movie. The filmmaker, who joined Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor: Ragnarok, will be directing Thor: Love and Thunder. The filmmaker will direct Chris Hemsworth and Tesse Thompson for the second time while he transforms Natalie Portman's Jane Foster into MCU's first female Thor as he works with her on a Marvel movie for the first time. Although the cast has been confirmed, Marvel Studios has kept the plot under tight wrap.

However, Waititi has now teased the possible plotline of Thor: Love and Thunder. The director, speaking with Variety, revealed the script could touch upon the most popular comic book story featuring Jane struggling with breast cancer. For the unversed, in Jason Aaron’s comic series, Mjolnir is abandoned as soon as Thor is deemed as unworthy. The Mjolnir then seeks for cancer-stricken Jane and grants her the power to become the new Thor. Her cancer is cured when she wielding the Mjolnir. However, cancer relapses when she returns to human form.

Waititi told the international outlet that the breast cancer storyline could influence Thor: Love and Thunder. “I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s fighting this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally I really love that storyline. But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen," he said.

“We’re not sure if we’re going to do a complete lift of that whole storyline. These things change through the shoot and even when we’re editing sometimes. Like, ‘Let’s get rid of that storyline where she’s got breast cancer. We’ll change it to something else, or maybe she’s fine,’” Waititi added.

While the story is still unclear, Natalie appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to reveal that there is still some time before she begins to beef up for her role. Watch the video below:
