An interesting casting announcement in 2019 has to be Robert Pattinson as the new Batman. While Christian Bale was hailed for his performance as the Dark Knight in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, Ben Affleck was shunned for his take on the Caped Crusader. Hence, reactions were polarising when it was revealed that the Twilight (2008) star will be taking the legacy of Bruce Wayne forward. However, many Hollywood celebrities have been giving their seal of approval to Mr. Pattinson, including Bale and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Talking about how "awesome" Robert is going to be as the new Batman is his The King co-star Timothée Chalamet. During his interview with Variety, Timothée shared, "I think it's [Robert Pattinson as Batman] going to be awesome," and added, "... It's going to be great. Greg Fraser, an Australian DP, he did Dune, he's shooting the new Batman so it's going to be awesome. I just know it's going to be fresh, I don't know in what direction, but I think it's going to be a great new thing."

Furthermore, Chalamet also pondered over the fact that playing Batman and Joker has become the "new great" role to do. The Call Me By Your Name (2017) star also recalled that at the age of five, when strangers would ask him his name, the actor would say, Robin. Talking about how he won't be averse to play Batman's trusted sidekick Robin, the 22-year-old actor shared with Variety, "Actually every director steered away from putting Robin [in a movie]... well, actually Zack Snyder had a flashback of Robin, but it was like three seconds and I don't even know if it was Robin by name but they've steered away from it because it’s hard to do dramatically or something, and I’m not averse to those universes."
