With Royal Rumble 2021 now behind us, the WWE Universe is on the road to Wrestlemania 37. Many have been curious to know if John Cena, who rarely misses The Show of Shows, will be making a highly-anticipated appearance during WWE's coveted PPV. The last time Cena had a match in WWE was his stellar outing against Bray Wyatt aka The Fiend in a Firefly Funhouse Match at Wrestlemania 36.

However, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, John broke many hearts with his disappointing update on a possible appearance at Wrestlemania 37. "Currently, I’m in Vancouver shooting Peacemaker, the series for HBO Max," the 43-year-old wrestler disclosed while adding that if he were to leave Canada, he would have to quarantine upon return for another two weeks under the COVID-19 regulations. This would mean that Peacemaker's production would have to be shut down. Hence, strictly based on the "letter of the law" right now, there is no "logistical" way for John to be at Wrestlemania 37. Additionally, Cena revealed that they're filming for Peacemaker now until July.

Talking about Peacemaker, John gushed that the upcoming Suicide Squad spinoff series is a "wonderful episodic show" which is an amazing opportunity as it's a challenge he wanted. Getting to work with awesome people like James Gunn, who is writing and directing Peacemaker, is something The Suicide Squad star couldn't pass up.

"It’s very difficult to say because I know it’s going to be disappointing for a lot of people, but according to the letter of regulation right now, there is no mathematical way I can be at WrestleMania this year," Cena admitted to SI.

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Cena addressed how he now belongs to the group of part-time WWE wrestlers that return for Wrestlemania. Calling it a "hypocritical situation," John laughed and confided that he used to be very open about the fact that "part-timers were just that" and now, in his forties, the wrestler has become what he despised. "That is kind of what it is," John concluded.
