While many Disney stars want to escape their early fame as they struggled with it, Zendaya isn’t ashamed of being called a Disney star. The 24-year-old Spiderman actress recently opened up to Carey Mulligan for Variety‘s Actors on Actors about being a Disney star kid, and she even said that being a Disney kid doesn’t embarrass her, its a part of who she is.

Carey then chimed in and said that Zendaya couldn’t still think of herself as just a Disney kid in regards to the actress’ recent Emmy win. To which Zendaya said that she doesn’t mind, she is in fact grateful for that, because that is where she started and learned so much from that experience. Zendaya added, “It’s just kind of been this slow progression, and I am happy that it’s all been to prove it to myself and not to anybody else, you know? I embrace it a little bit. It’s part of my heritage to a degree.”

If you missed it, a few weeks ago, the actress opened up about being perceived as cold and mean in the industry. The Greatest Showman actress told GQ that in this industry, she had to learn how to do small talk, admitting that without it, she would come off as cold and mean. She also added that when she started out, she didn’t know how to start conversations with people.  The Emmy Award winner then recalled an instance when her stylist told her that the actress “comes off kind of cold. People think you’re mean because you don’t talk,” to which Zendaya said she was just nervous and shy.
