In a massive blow to Team India, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup for at least three weeks due to a swollen thumb. The left-hander picked up the injury while batting against Australia in the last game, where he scored a hundred.

The injury is a massive blow to the side, who will struggle to find an equally aggressive opening partner. KL Rahul, who often struggles for consistency, will be the player to replace him at the top of the order alongside Rohit Sharma. However, the left hand- right hand combination that had worked so well for the Men in Blue over the last six years will be sorely missed.

Given the fact that Dhawan was in good form - he scored a hundred in the last game - and that he always brings out his best in ICC events, makes his loss a huge one. The Delhiite had scored his sixth hundred in ICC events in the game against Australia, and Virat Kohli will need to tinker with a winning combination when they meet New Zealand next on June 13.

No replacement has been named thus far.
