The Men in Blue will encounter New Zealand in the semi-finals of the on-going World Cup tournament tomorrow at Manchester. Interestingly, the same two teams encountered each other in the semi-finals of the Under-19 World Cup back in 2008. The Skippers of their current team i.e. Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson led their respective Under-19 teams in the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2008 as well. The two captains will once again face off each other in the semi finals of such a big tournament 11 years later.

When asked about this interesting similarity, the Indian Skipper said in a pre match press conference that he will definitely remind Kane about this when he meets him tomorrow. “I’ll actually remind Kane, I am sure he remembers. It’s quite a nice thing to realise that 11 years after, we’re captaining our respective nations again in a senior World Cup from under-19,” Virat added.

He also added that a lot of players from that World Cup from India, New Zealand and other teams have made it to the national teams and are still playing. He said that it’s a very nice memory and both the captains will feel good about knowing that this is happening. “Neither me nor him could have ever anticipated that one day this will happen, but it’s a really nice thing,” the Indian Skipper added.

In the league stage of this tournament, India’s clash against the Black Caps was called off due to rain and the teams will face off each other for the first time in this on-going World Cup tomorrow at Manchester.
