The 28th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will see Team India take on qualifiers Afghanistan at The Rose Bowl, Southampton on Saturday. Team India are currently on a five day break after crushing arch rivals Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday. During this period, opener Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the tournament due to a thumb fracture which he had suffered during his match winning knock against the Aussies. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who suffered a hamstring strain in the game against Pakistan has been ruled out of action for at least 10 days. Also, its three-dimensional player Vijay Shankar suffered an injury scare as he was hit by a toe crusher from Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday. In case if Vijay Shankar is unfit, it would be interesting to see if Rishabh Pant, the latest entrant into the squad gets a game straightaway.

Afghanistan on the other hand, have failed to win a single game in this tournament. In their previous game against England, their bowlers were taken to the cleaners by the English batsmen led by their skipper Eoin Morgan, who made a swashbuckling 148 off 71 balls, including 4 hits to the fence and 17 over it. Their batsmen too have struggled to put enough runs on the board to challenge top quality oppositions. The issues with the team management has not helped the cause either.

Trivia:

Virat Kohli needs 104 more runs to reach 20000 runs in international cricket. If he does so, he would be the 12th batsmen and 3rd Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to achieve this feat.

Hardik Pandya needs 1 more wicket to reach 100 international wickets and 4 more wickets to reach 50 wickets in ODI cricket.
