Earlier, on Tuesday, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson found luck with the coin and opted to bat first. The side didn’t find a fiery start as Indian bowlers kept it really tight. However, some brilliant stuff by the experienced duo of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor resisted in the middle. The duo largely contributed, taking Kiwis to a good position. The rain though interrupted the play at the Old Trafford. The continuous rain delayed the proceedings of the match to the reserve day.

Thankfully the sun was out this morning and match commenced from the stage it had stopped. New Zealand finished up with 239-8, giving India a fighting total to chase. To everyone’s surprise, India got off to a horrible start. The Men in Blue first lost in-form Rohit Sharma while captain Virat Kohli and Kl Rahul also followed him.

Matt Henry bowled an unreal spell alongside Trent Boult to get India down on 24-4. However, the youngster duo of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya showed some resistance before both of them lost cool once tweaker Mitchell Santner was introduced to the attack.

With 92-6, Ravindra Jadeja played the best innings of his life to lead a great recovery for Kohli’s men. The southpaw scored an astonishing knock of 77 runs in 59 balls to form a much-needed stand of 116 runs. However, Jadeja when India required 32 runs off 14 balls.

Though MS Dhoni's presence at the crease had hopes still high for Men in Blue before he was run out by a brilliant through of Martin Guptil. This is when the hopes disappeared and India finally finished with 221 runs to hand New Zealand an 18-run win.
