Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first in the semi-finals against the Men in Blue. The rain pushed the match to the reserve day and the kiwis registered 239 runs at the end of 50 overs.

The Indian batting line up crumbled against the Black caps and the team lost their first three wickets in the beginning of the innings. The semi finals between India and New Zealand that had that to be shifted to a reserve day is now a thrilling game for the fans to encounter.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, three top order batsmen scored only one run before losing their wicket in this high tense match. Dinesh Kartik lost his wicket to Matt Henry and could manage to score only 6 runs in 25 deliveries. However, the turning point of the match was the partnership between Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya which provided the team a much needed stability in the middle.

Rishabh who was included in the Indian squad in the middle of the tournament post the exit of injured Shikhar Dhawan scored a solid 32 runs and showcased great temperament in this high pressure situation at the semis. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni built up a brilliant 50 run partnership, keeping the hopes of the Indian team fans still alive in the tournament.  

Ravindra Jadeja was not included in the playing 11 for the longest time in the tournament and was used by the team as a substitute fielder. However, his brilliant knock under pressure, helped the team fight back in this knockout match of the World Cup.
