The first semi-final of the World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand has been interrupted due to rain after 46.1 overs were possible in the first innings.

Rain was always predicted for the clash at Manchester, but the clouds stayed away as the game started on time. Though the conditions were overcast, the track was slow, as the Kiwi batters had a tough time navigating the new ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah bowled well upfront, varying their pace and angling the ball in, to immediately put pressure on the Kiwi openers. At 1 for 1, it was imperative that the New Zealand batters put up a partnership, and though Henry Nicholls and Kane Willaimson put up 68 runs for the second wicket, the runs came at a slow pace. They were 134 after 35.2 overs, with Ross Taylor snail-pacing his way to a fifty.

For the Indians, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya controlled the middle overs beautifully, with the field placements by skipper Virat Kohli winning accolades as well.

At the time of rain, New Zealand had scored 211 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. The rain does not seem heavy, and the game should start soon.

It should be remembered that if no further play is possible today, the match will be played tomorrow again.
