After a long wait of five hours, rain has officially forced the first semi-finals of the World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand to be played on the Reserve Day.

Heavy rain lashed Manchester during the first innings, which meant that both sides had to walk out of the field after only 46.1 overs were possible. New Zeland were 211 for 5 in their 46.1 overs, before rain came pouring down. Despite a patient wait, rain did not relent much to the dismay of fans, which forced the umpires to call off play for today. The game will continue tomorrow.

New Zealand, hence, will have 23 balls to score as many runs, and India will have the full 50 overs to score 211+ whatever runs the Kiwis make to progress to the finals. If, however, rain plays spoilsport again, then the umpires will try to ensure that India bat at least 20 overs. If that is also not possible, the game will be abandoned and India will qualify for the finals, on account of them finishing higher in the league table.

Though rain is predicted for tomorrow as well - there are 20% chances of rain - it is hoped that we can get a full game.
