Virat Kohli led Indian cricket team encountered a loss against the Black Caps by 18 runs in the semi-finals of the tournament. However, the Indian coach Ravi Shastri advised the team to be proud of their achievements in the last two years instead of getting disappointed by the loss.

Speaking to Indian Express, Ravi Shastri said, “Walk out with your heads held high. Be proud. Those 30 minutes can’t erase the fact that you guys have been the best team in the last couple of years.” He added that the Indian team have earned respect and even though they are hurt and disappointed, at the end, they should be proud of what they have done in the past two years.

The Men in Blue had played extra ordinary cricket throughout the tournament and ended their league stage at the top of the points table with only one loss against the hosts. The team’s batting crumbled against the magnificent bowling from the New Zealand side which ended their World Cup 2019 campaign.

"Hurting, obviously. Disappointed, yes, but no tears. This is a tough team. A magnificent team,” said Shastri. He said that the Indian team is on the right track and they know it. However, he admitted, "When the team has played good and tough cricket for the last 30 months, this loss in the semi-finals would hurt. It’s a tough pill to swallow and we are all gutted, but this is sport. That’s why we play it," Shastri added.
