In her latest interview, Kareena talks about her upcoming movie Heroine, what its like to be a commercial A-lister and whats on the marital front for her and Saif.

She also speaks highly of Katrina Kaif :)

"Did your boyfriend Saif Ali Khan really strike NRI Iqbal Sharma at the restaurant, as was reported?
It’s a figment of the gentleman’s (Iqbal Sharma) imagination. I didn’t see any jaw breaking happening. The man was busy giving interviews left, right and centre. Saif is peace loving and a gentleman. Unless provoked, he’d never misbehave with anyone. Due to his star status he’s been victimised. If this involved someone else, it wouldn’t have made such big news.

Saif mentioned that they misbehaved with the women (friends Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan).
Yes, the older man’s wife abused Amu (Amrita) and called her names. Obviously, all this provoked Saif. The younger guy (Iqbal) pushed Saif and punched him first. Saif’s not going to take a blow from anyone. What Saif did was right. He did apologise for any damage caused. But clearly, there wasn’t any because if his jaw or nose had been broken, the man wouldn’t have rambled to news channels for 10 hours.

Is it easier for people to piggyback on celebrities to get media coverage?
That guy claimed that he didn’t even know who Saif and Kareena were. His wife is a part of this industry (Tarina Patel). She starred in Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Also, when we entered the restaurant, Malaika exchanged pleasantries with her. Obviously, she knew that we were Saif, Kareena and Malaika.

Coming to Heroine, your character smokes and drinks. What’s your take on such addictions?
I’m playing an onscreen character. That doesn’t mean I lead my life in the same way. That’s why it’s called acting. It’s part of the script. And a Madhur Bhandarkar film can’t be a family entertainer with ghagra cholis and stuff like that.

A lot of actors say that they draw inspiration from their own life to portray a character…
Then what happens when they need to kill someone in their film? Are they all killers? Many actors have played underworld dons but that doesn’t mean they are so in real life. A girl who’s doing an item song isn’t an item girl in reality.

Is it true that you wanted Arunoday Singh out of Heroine because you didn’t want to kiss him?
I didn’t even know Arunoday was a part of this film in the first place. I just knew Randeep Hooda was in it. And who is part of a film or not is the producer or the director’s call, not mine.

Okay, what’s the best thing about working with Madhur Bhandarkar?
I’m having a blast working with Madhur. He’s so chilled out. (Laughs) We’re doing this deadly scene and he’s eating bhajiyas on the side. But that’s him and he’s been doing that since Chandni Bar. Whenever I meet Tabu, she tells me the same thing. Every director has his own method and I love Madhur’s because I’m like that too. I’m eating, doing yoga, chatting with my staff and suddenly breaking into an emotional scene.

Do you have any reference points while approaching a role?
I normally go by instinct. Like Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET) is more of an English film. Mine was not your typical Hindi film heroine’s role. It needed courage to play this crazy girl who isn’t bothered about her hair, her clothes, anything. It was something that I hadn’t done before.

What else is important while acting?
It’s also important to look good. Because in some films I have just looked good and done nothing else. (Laughs) Yet, people have come up and told me that my performance was great. I’m baffled by such compliments. Also, I end up shooting tough scenes without even knowing that they are difficult. Being unaware works for me.

RA.One and Bodyguard were blockbusters but you got no critical acclaim. Does that bother you?
If some other actress acts in a film and it’s a commercial success, no one bothers about it. But when I’m in a film, people expect me to perform. That’s unfair. Honestly, I loved my role in Bodyguard. People have come up to me and said they loved me in it. I trust my fans. Ultimately, I am a commercial star. Bodyguard and RA.One have added a lot to my repertoire. As for critical acclaim, I know I’m a good actress yaar!
Now, I just want to enjoy the taste of a blockbuster success. It’s a different high. There can be no bigger joy than seeing your film become a Rs 100 crore hit. It’s like a full meal of daal, chawal, sabzi and achaar. It’s given me the courage to get into Heroine. I want my films to do well. I don’t want people to say that my performance was good but not the film. The film is also important.

You’ve worked with all the three Khans and then the much younger Imran. Was this a bid to cater to a younger audience?
(Smiles) It wasn’t a conscious decision. Rihaana’s role was tailor-made for me. After working with all the Khans my attitude was like I don’t want to work with new directors. But while reading the script of EMAET, I reached the third page and decided to do the film. And I hadn’t even reached my character. I immediately messaged Karan and told him that I wanted to do the film. It’s the dialogue. The way the film is written. It’s fresh.

And what do you dig about Imran?
Imran is cool, classy and charming. He’s unlike a Bollywood hero. He can talk about things other than movies. He’s chivalrous and well-behaved. He comes to the set, does his work and has a life outside it. And yeah, Avantika (Imran’s wife) is lovely. She was very involved with this film.

You seem to be enjoying doing item numbers in both Agent Vinod and Heroine.
I don’t know why this song in Heroine is being called an item number. I’m playing a heroine in the movie and I’m doing a song shoot in it! The song in Agent Vinod too is hardly an item number. If you remember, I had declined Chikni Chameli. It had first come to me.

You regret declining that offer? Considering it went on to become such a rage…
Not at all. Katrina Kaif was fab. And the steps she managed to pull off were commendable. I don’t think I could’ve done them.

After the aborted Bajirao Mastani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has once again offered you a role. True?
Yes. Sanjay and I have wanted to work with each other for eons now. The film is opposite Ranveer Singh and we’re working out the contract details. Let’s hope everything works out well. He’s the only director I’ve wanted to work with for a long time.

Are you doing Rohit Shetty’s film with Shah Rukh Khan?
He has spoken to me about it but nothing is on paper as such. Let’s see.

You’ve been to the Pataudi Palace...
I love the courtyards of the palace. They’re huge and I would take long walks every day. I love the fact that there’s a fireplace where I can spend some quality time with Saif, which I can’t do in Mumbai. I look forward to going there with him. I visit the place as often as I can. Somehow, I feel connected and very much at home. (Smiles) It keeps me peaceful, away from the whole world. Actually, there’s not much of a royal lifestyle. It’s just that Saifoo’s mom (Sharmila Tagore) and the entire family is so warm, open-minded and contemporary. Especially Saif’s mom. She’s the most cosmopolitan lady I’ve met. She’s intelligent and practical. And so loving, especially towards me. (Smiles) I share a wonderful relationship with her.

Go on…
Well, she has an ‘intimidating’ image but she’s very sweet once you know her. She has accepted me. She loves me and I love her. She’s an inspiration, an ideal woman. I enjoy spending time with her.

Insiders claim that you’re already married to Saif. True?
Rubbish! If I’m already married, then has it affected my box-office status? Obviously not. I’ve done Golmaal 3, 3 Idiots, Bodyguard, RA.One and now I’m doing Heroine and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next. I’m enjoying this phase. It’s the best any actress could ask for. It’s been a dream run. Whether I’m married or not, how does it even matter? Marriage can wait. Right now, the focus is on Heroine.

dint she say the same things while she was with shahid & was asked the same question?

She kind of accepted that she is already married to Saif, kinda indirectly, read her answer to that question again and you will notice her confirmation...

Being honest and being full of yourself, huge diference "I know I’m a good actress yaar!"
she is extremely full of herself and can't get outta her tiny bubble...

best

@Nabby h Don 2 was a super hit. It grossed 112 on a budget of 60 crores. Ra.one made around 120 crores which was made on a budget of 150 crores. It recovered its cost through satellite rights , music rights etc

And these numbers and revenue gets printed on Hindustan Times Newspaper. Though both Ra.one and Don 2 are 100 crore members but ra.one was average if not Flop.

ahh..... okey lets clear this... ra1 was NOT a blockbuster... it was hardly a hit! it was an average. and when she said " when some other actress gives a blockbuster.........blah blah.......but when i m in the film, they expect me to perform."
yaya, BOOBOO we get it , you are the best...no, not best... YOU ARE THE BESTESTEST!!! If it makes you feel happy :P
MAN SHE IS SO FULL OF HERSELF!
------------------------------------------------

When they say blockbuster, they mean the financial recovery of the film which is the producer's revenue. They are not speaking about critical acclaim. Ra 1 was a blockbuster as I believe it had recovered all its expenses and more within the 1st week of its release.

I JUST LOVE THIS PICTURE OF HER

As always she put her foot in mouth. bimbo

" If you remember, I had declined Chikni Chameli. It had first come to me."
This line screams insecurity to me. She knows that Katrina is really popular now, she wants to show inferiority to Kat. 2 yrs before she said she takes 'role of substance', now after Kat's success as an arm candy, she herself became background of Ra.one, bodyguard, golmaal, 3 idiots etc! Isnt it Ironic? !!!

For people claiming here that she is honest, there is a difference between being honest and pulling others down to look good! She is a 'green eyed monster'. :D :P :D :D

@PrincessRuchi I made the same post same as last time, but I guess this time you were the lucky one:))I think It's weird how we end up mixing up the same posts!!!

this is an old interview lol....i remember reading this before

the doesn't twist words to be diplomatic like others. she says whatever is in her mind.

i agree with you you need to have guts to be that honest and say these things
