Indian Premier League is set to get two new teams ahead of the next season, claimed a report on Sunday. Several corporate houses have reached the IPL governing body, among which two will get the nod, increasing the total number of teams from 8 to 10.

“The plan is ready. Expansion is a certainty. What needs to be worked out is the tender process and how to go about it. Expect things to fall in place soon, certainly before the next IPL edition,” TOI quoted BCCI sources as saying.

The report named corporate houses like the Adani Group (for Ahmedabad), the RPG-Sanjeev Goenka Group (for Pune), the Tatas (for Ranchi and Jamshedpur), saying they are willing to bid for a place in the cash-rich tournament.

The owners of franchises and the governing bodies of IPL had a meeting in London recently, where the inclusion of two teams was also discussed.

“There’s space for it and it’s a natural progression. The IPL is at a juncture right now where it will need to expand for multiple reasons — consumption is top-most. Expect digital revenues to triple in the next rights season. With Tests and ODI championships’ cycles falling in place, the international calendar will be far more regularised,” TOI quoted officials.

Earlier also the tournament was changed to the 10-team circuit, however, due to several controversies, BCCI withdrew the same and later stuck with the old eight teams.
