IU and Lee Jong-Suk Confirm Breakup After Four Years of Relationship: 'To Remain Good Colleagues'
The Korean actors' agencies confirmed their breakup, revealing they have decided to remain on good terms.
The Korean stars IU and Lee Jong-Suk have officially ended their relationship after four years together. Their agencies confirmed the update, bringing an end to one of the Korean entertainment industry's most admired celeb romances. While the couple has chosen to part ways, both sides emphasized that they remain on good terms and will continue supporting each other professionally.

Confirming the development, IU's agency EDAM Entertainment and Lee Jong-Suk's agency ACE FACTORY said, "It is true that they broke up," adding that the two have "decided to remain good colleagues." Representatives of both actors also told Korean media outlet Dispatch, "Both recently broke up and have decided to remain good senior-junior colleagues."
What Led to IU and Lee Jong-Suk's Breakup
According to Dispatch, the couple gradually drifted apart because of their increasingly demanding professional commitments, leaving them with little time to spend together. A source close to the former couple explained, "As their busy schedules led to fewer opportunities to meet, they decided to end the relationship." Neither IU nor Lee Jong-Suk has commented further beyond their agencies' official statements.
The two first met in 2012 while serving as MCs on SBS's music programme Inkigayo. They remained close friends and colleagues for nearly a decade before their relationship turned romantic. Their romance became public in December 2022, and they quickly became one of South Korea's most loved celebrity couples, earning widespread support from fans throughout their relationship.
IU and Lee Jong-Suk's Work front
Following the breakup, both actors are concentrating on their careers. Lee Jong-Suk is gearing up for the release of upcoming web series The Remarried Empress and has also confirmed his role in the live-action adaptation of the web novel Lee Seob's Love.
Meanwhile, IU has wrapped filming for MBC's 21st Century Grand Prince's Wife. The singer-actress is currently working on her new album while also preparing for a concert at Goyang Stadium's main arena in September 2026.
