Responding to the report, his agency, Namoo Actors, stated, “Lee Joon Gi has received an offer to appear in Dochabi and is positively reviewing it.” While the agency confirmed that discussions are ongoing, it also clarified, “Nothing has been finalized yet.”
For those unfamiliar, Dochabi is derived from the Korean word for “goblin.” The upcoming film is set in the northern border region of Joseon and follows Tae San, a former officer who lives in seclusion in the mountains.
Although the actor's role has not yet been confirmed, reports suggest that Lee Joon Gi has been offered a key character in the film. The project will be directed by Ahn Tae Jin, known for The Night Owl and the drama Second Signal.
Interestingly, this would not be the first collaboration between Lee Joon Gi and Ahn Tae Jin. Back in 2005, the actor achieved his breakthrough with The King and the Clown.
Directed by Lee Joon-ik, the historical drama was adapted from Kim Tae-woong's 2000 stage play Yi. The film revolves around Yeonsangun, a king of the Joseon era, and a court clown whose wit and performances capture attention. Lee Joon Gi portrayed the clown, while Ahn Tae Jin was part of the crew as an assistant director.
As Dochabi is currently in pre-production, filming is expected to begin in August this year.
Coming to Lee Joon Gi’s work front, the actor was last seen in the television series, Arthdal Chronicles. The ancient fantasy drama takes place during the Bronze Age and is loosely based on the story of Dangun, the founder of the first Korean Kingdom of Gojoseon and Asadal.
