BCCI COA member Diana Edulji lauded India's performance in the World Cup 2019 after their loss to New Zealand in the semis. Team India had topped the league stage but failed to deliver in the semis, as they went down by 18 runs.

"The team played well. It was just unfortunate that the game went into the second day. Three early wickets put the team on the backfoot completely. Then it was a great recovery from Jadeja and Dhoni. It was a case of so close but yet so far. Hats off to Jadeja and Dhoni for the way they played," Edulji told PTI.

Chasing a moderate 240 for a win, the Indian top order failed to handle the swing bowling of Trent Boult and Matt Henry, as they collapsed to 5 for 3. At 92 for 6, a loss was imminent but a fighting partnership from Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni took the team close. The former scored 77, while the wicket-keeper managed 50 before he was run-out.

Speculations about his retirement were doing the rounds after the game, but Edulji had other views, and stated that Dhoni still has a lot to offer.

"I completely appreciate the way he played in the whole tournament. That (retirement) is his personal decision. Only he can take that decision and it is his body which has to answer him. I still feel that he has a lot of cricket left in him. The youngsters in the team still need his mentorship, " Edulji added.
