Australia's off-spinner Nathan Lyon stated that his team are the underdogs against England ahead of the second semi-finals of the World Cup 2019.

“They have been the No. 1 team for a couple of years now. They should be going into this World Cup as favourites. It’s all on them,” said Lyon.

“It’s their World Cup to lose if you ask me. We have got nothing to lose, only got stuff to gain.”

However, Lyon stated, that despite a few injuries to their players - Shaun Marsh and Usman Khawaja are already ruled out of the edition, while Marcus Stoinis is a doubt for the encounter - the Australians are on the verge of achieving something "special", and that the Kangaroos would ensure that they are fully prepared for the semi-final clash with Ashes rival England.

“Every time you play against England, you want to compete hard against them and try and come out on the top. Obviously their side is full of absolute superstars, and we are definitely going in as underdogs,” Lyon said.

Australia were number one in the points table ahead of their last league game against South Africa, but a narrow 10-run loss against the Proteas meant that they slipped down to number two. India, thus, finished on top and will meet the fourth-ranked New Zealand in the first semi-final match on Tuesday, while Australia will meet England, who finished third after the league stages ended, on Thursday.
