Sri Lankan umpire Kumar Dharmasena caught himself in the midst of controversy in the semi-final match of England and Australia. Jason Roy who was batting at 85 was given out on a delivery bowled by Pat Cummins by the Sri Lankan umpire. However, the review indicated that the bat had made no contact with the ball at all. This was already a major reason for the fans to vent out their frustration for the Sri Lankan umpire.

However, the fans were startled and furious when he was picked for umpiring in the big clash of the final at Lord’s when the same team, England encountered New Zealand. He once again caught the limelight as two decisions made by him were reversed in the final.

When Chris Woakes hit Martin Guptill in the seventh over of the game, it was Dharmasena who straightway raised his finger, indicating the wicket of the New Zealand batsman. However, Guptill’s review resulted in the decision being reversed. Kane Williamson who edged a delivery by England’s Liam Plunkett to keeper Jos Buttler was given not-out. However, Eoin Morgan’s confidence made him straight away take a review and yet another decision was reversed in this big clash of the tournament.

Fans on twitter have already tagged him as the worst umpire in the World Cup and a few also question his presence in the final despite the big blunder in the semis. Let’s have a look at few of the tweets.
