Remember when we first saw the trailer of Sonam K Ahuja’s biographical thriller, Neerja and we were so hooked onto the trailer of the film that we couldn’t wait to watch the film on the silver screen. And once we saw the film, we were all praises for Sonam who essayed the role of Neerja Bhanot. Now today, Neerja has clocked three years and an emotional Sonam took to social media to pen an emotional note and recounted the first time she met Neerja Bhanot’s mother, Rama Aunty.

In this video, an emotional Sonam is talking about how Neerja Bhanot's mother Rama Bhanot reacted after seeing her for the first time. Sonam says, “I had gone for an event to Chandigarh and Atul and Ram and everyone were with me and they were like we need to see the family, they have to be okay with you doing it, they have to be okay with the film being made and we need to meet them and speak to them about it and the first thing Rama aunty said was yeh toh meri laddo hai and I remember I had gooseflesh when she said that. She said that there is something about the way I am which reminded her of her daughter, that was very humbling for me, I was like if I am doing this film then I can’t let this lady down.”

Besides Sonam, Neerja starred Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku and Shekhar Ravjiani in supporting roles. Neerja, which won two awards at the 64th National Film Awards- Best Feature Film in Hindi and Special Mention for Kapoor, narrated the story of Neerja Bhanot, a purser for the airline Pan American World Airways who gave her life saving passengers on Pan Am Flight 73, which was hijacked by terrorists on September 5, 1986.

In the video, producer of the film, Atul Kasbekar says, “She has been so real and nuanced in the film, we are really proud of her, it wasn’t easy, but I told her to just surrender yourself to the process. She was a complete team player.” Alongside the video, Sonam wrote, “When you do a movie that is based on such reality and pain and follows the true story of heroism and love, it’s truly overwhelming. Three years later I am honoured to convey this inspirational story. #3YearsOfNeerja.”

Last, Sonam Kapoor was seen in Shelly Chopra Dhar’s film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga co-starring Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla. After this, Sonam will be seen in Abhishek Sharma’s The Zoya Factor opposite Dulquer Salmaan.
