Recently, Parineeti Chopra attended a graduation day ceremony of the self-defense academy for women in Mumbai, helmed by Akshay Kumar. At the ceremony, Parineeti spoke about her childhood and said that she did not have the money to learn martial arts. She said that she did not even have money to take a bus or a cab to school and therefore used to cycle all the way to school.

She mentioned that she faced a lot of hardships as boys used to eve-tease her during the time. However, this speech of Parineeti has attracted a lot of flak from Parineeti's school mates, who swear by the fact that Parineeti is from a well-to-do family and that her family owned two cars when she was at school.

Parineeti said, "I am so touched after coming here as I am thinking about my life. I am from a very small city, Ambala. I had two brothers growing up and we had a lot of difficulties. We didn't have any money, so I used to travel by cycle, to school. We did not have a car, or even money for the bus. I used to fight with my mom and dad saying why do I have to cycle to school every day. I did not have the money to join a martial arts class during the time. I am so happy for you that you got this opportunity. Thank yourselves that you are graduating from such an institute. Make use of this knowledge and go kick some ass."

Parineeti's friends are calling out to her on Facebook saying, "Parineeti Chopra Shame........ coming from a privileged background and lying through the teeth in front of camera. I guess this is what being a celebrity means. Create a fabricated sob story of no money no car etc etc. Coming from the same school I probably also remember the car her father used to have. And going to school on a cycle was a trend those days and also a privilege not every one had. My friends from CJM would probably understand the lies a bit better. SIC. "

Parineeti's comments were NOT misconstructed, I saw the video and I noticed it too but well..I don't give a damn!!
PC has nothing to with her story....not sure about other stories but racism and bullying story of her is bloody true - I can definitely relate to each incident and the kind of comments she received that PC shared in public, stop assuming that any story of racism from a celebrity like PC is going to be a lie if you are just sitting in India and chilling while there are people who have been through such phases in their life.

OMG, I don't think there was a need to lie like that. She could have used many other examples if she was giving a speech but to lie about her condition when millions of Indians are extremely poor just shows bad taste

LIARS, these Chopra sisters. Priyanka built her career on lies. In each interview since she started show biz, she contradicts herself, exaggerates her BS. She NEVER went to college either but she has everybody believing she studied engineering, astronomy, computer technology, etc. She was a troubled teenager and her mother shifted her to the US where she only stayed for 2 years only and attended 3 different high schools because she was getting into fights, not because of racism. Her mother finally had to bring her back to India and by some miracle or whatever, she completed high school and her mother got her into beauty pageants. How they lie.

What the hell....why bringing PC in here?? Are you serious?? She didn't face racism, I can so relate to her story being in the same can't even imagine what bullying or racism is being in India trying to malign a hard working woman.

Her schoolmates are jealous period. They are losers while she's an actress with her own sea facing apartment in Mumbai.

please dont make up sob stories to get sympathy. So many people struggle and go through tough times that eventually makes them stronger. Let them share their stories and inspire others.

Kangana 2.0

This is an insult for every person that has suffered real poverty in their lives. Such a shame!! At least other star kids like Shraddha, Alia or even Sonam acknowledge their privileges and are thankfull.

Liar liar pants on fire!

shes just like priyanka...over confident and arrogant.

Man, she really messed up this time. She should've been careful with what she said. Being middle class doesn't mean rich but it sure as hell doesn't mean poor. She was better off not using herself as an example.

My mother put all her jewelry in the bank to get loan and to educate three of her kids, my question is what kind of parents drive BMWs and not pay for their kids martial art classes or bus ticket? I don't get it, she might be trying to get sympathy here but in a way she is insulting her parents. I found her statements simply hilarious, we siblings rode on bicycles to school, our father did not follow us behind :) then we would commute in the bus - where girls are molested every now and then. I have seen 2 or 3 of her interviews and let me put it in simple words - she is stupid. I don't understand how these kind of lame people get into movies these days. People like Madhuri, Juhi, Sridevi had a spark, screen presence, glamor, an attractive persona, nepotism is making things worse in films. She is pathetic.

How dare you! There are real poor children all over India who can't afford naan so don't lie with your fake bicycle

Saying you didn't have money for a bus and couldn't afford martial arts is ridiculous. She should know that she was from a much better off family than most people in India. It's not like she's saying this in America where you could be relatively poor while still being in general middle class surroundings, she's saying this in INDIA where the country is living in poverty.

she must get this from PC who also lies and exaggerates about growing up with no money despite having both her parents being DOCTORS!

Dad in the business of supplying merchandise to the army. And uncle (Priyanka's dad) an officer in the army. Ahem Ahem!

I remember a few years back she was mentioning in an interview how she used to go to a foreign country every year in summer holidays. he even posted her childhood photos in another country. And she even went to University abroad.

People these days just need a reason to vent out their frustrations on random people and stars pay a price for it big time .. the so called school mates coming out slamming parineeti for a statement she made casually are the losers who couldn't graduate from being a cycle owner to owning a car if their own , so simply taking it out on parineeti who made a name for herself.. She never said by cycle was a thing of the poor and that that was the only thing she had ..Stop turning random things into a big drama fest..

hahaha... just like all the fake reality shows where everyone is crying to get sympathy votes.....

Not all kids had a bicycle in India , you had to pester parents to buy you one ! Riding to school is because the school would be relatively near your house , I mean , nobody will send a daughter to travel long distances on a bicycle . That was when you got to show off your bike while the boys would show off their snazzy moves on it . After you became older , you'd graduate from a bicycle to a scooter or motorbike. The ones in cars would sit envying the chatting, gossiping kids biking home in the company of friends . Parineeti came from a normal , middle class Indian family need to turn it into a drama !

Dude...parents had to be pestered to buy a cycle because it was considered 'unsafe' NOT because middle-class folks couldn't afford a cycle worth few thousand. And this statement "nobody will send a daughter to travel long distances on a bicycle" is utterly wrong. I am a girl .. I studied at a convent and rode to school on a cycle (after 5th grade) for nearly 5 years which was a good 6-7 kms away. And there were many other girls along with me who did too! Not all parents are overprotective ... many want their daughters to be independent and less dependent. And that's the example (I think) Pari was trying to make. I eventually got fed up with the cycling too but commuting alone made me a lot more fearless than others... (PV, please post)

Then you are one of the lucky ones. Local bus services have special rates for school students . Travelling by bus all alone makes a girl independent too , probably more so after learning to rush into the bus , battle the lechers , crowds & grab a spot to sit on. It's definitely not like Parineeti went by bicycle because she was too poor for anything else as the writer mentions her Dad did own a car. She may not be a Birla or Ambani but she's certainly exaggerating when she acts like she had a difficult childhood & went to a 'Corporation/ Municipal school' where the man of the house may have commuted on a bicycle himself.

Did anyone notice PC's lie about abu sandeep costume in her dirty laundry video. First she said that was her first branded costume she bought at 19 after winning the miss world pageant then later she contradicts saying she bought it specially for her dad's musical show during the time he was diagnosed with cancer which was in 2005-2006, she was definitely not 19 then.

Overexaggeration and self-absorbtion runs in the family I guess. Priyanka loves to get sympathy from ppl. Her struggle to get where she is without a godfather and how hard she works. Hey guess what, that's your job and your story isn't unique. Try being poor like the ppl you sell your films and products to for big bucks. She even used her dad's cancer/death to get sympathy. She said he was against her talking about his illness publicly but talked about it in almost every interview during that time. That's when I lost respect for her.

Hahahahaha ! This story cracked me up!!! Another nepo kid trying to prove how she deserves stardom! Sick! Today I've lost all respect for Pari! All!!

lol the story is very filmy to begin with, if not lying, she's definitely exaggerating to the maxx. honestly, it's being insulting to the ppl who really can't even afford a bicycle cus they actually are poor.

parineeti has no filter...says anything in the moment to appeal to people she is speaking to. next time she knows to be completely honest cause people love to find ways to bash celebrities in any way possible

in what way was she prjveleged? she has always said she belongs to a middle class family. and as far as studying in england..she got a full scholarship to study there. dont think she would lie when her family knows whether what she is saying is true or not.

University of Manchester does NOT provide fill scholarship to Indian students. She even said in an interview that she used to for holidays abroad every year during her school days and she has traveled a lot.

she never directly said she was poor in the video...she could have meant anything with her statement. dont know why ppl are too sensitive and feel the need to scrutinize every detail a celebrity makes

You can't lie anymore celebrities. It takes two seconds to look up a fact or for someone to call you out.

I agree this a a b.s sob story doesn't she have a masters from England, not everyone can afford a bicycle
