Gender bias exists everywhere and Bollywood is no different. While most leading ladies are still coping up with the pay disparity that exists in Bollywood, today there is a new topic that has caught everyone's attention.

Leading female singers of Bollywood - Neha Bhasin, Neeti Mohan, Aditi Singh Sharma and Jonita Gandhi recently shot for a special interview with Anupama Chopra and candidly spoke about the reason why female singers aren't given enough importance and why there is no female equivalent to an Arijit Singh.

When the ladies were asked about this, Neha Bhasin was the first to react with a 'Thank You' a gesture to convey regards for asking this question. Immediately, Neeti Mohan added because there aren't enough female songs in Bollywood. Aditi pointed out in the discussion, "If an album has seven songs, 90 percent of the time, five of the songs will be male, while two would be female, or one would be a female song and the other a duet."

On hearing this, Neeti Mohan quipped, "The duet will have two “female lines” [in a high-pitched voice], leaving the artist wondering how on earth that becomes a duet."

Neha Bhasin also added further that the situation for female singers could improve if the leading actresses demand a complete song for themselves in the movies. "If female actors start demanding full songs in their films, because these movies are their movies too, and they’re making the films run, then it could help. Currently, the male actors are just leading the way, and female actors are doing item songs."

Songstress Jonita Gandhi admitted how frustrating it is when the songs are composed without keeping women in mind because of which the singer has to sing in a pitch that she isn't comfortable in. Though this isn't the case always but most of the times this is what they go through!

Interestingly, Aditi made another valid point in the discussion. She said that the female songs that are nominated for awards are the only female songs in the album and probably the only one of that particular year.

Well, we quite agree to their point and hope that soon the composers, filmmakers and the actors take note of it! Watch the video and do let us know your thoughts on it!
