Earlier, during an interaction with a leading tabloid, spoke about the parameters to judge anyone's stardom in the early 90s. He said, "Back in the '90s when there wasn't so much talk about box-office numbers, how could you tell someone is finally a star? From the time I was seven, I remember reading Trade Guide, and other box-office journals. We would check out the figures of dad's films, and there would be a circuit-wise breakup. Within the industry, the [box-office] knowledge was always there, since cinema has always been around as a business."

Aamir further added, "Today, mainstream media is picking up box-office figures, and that's a choice you're making. In small towns, for instance, when people didn't know box-office numbers, one way to gauge stardom was if people had begun copying an actor's haircut. True? There are many yardsticks for measuring how popular a star is. Copying style is one of them. I remember when Mr Bachchan became a huge star, I wanted to get bell-bottoms made like his. For me, it is essentially about how many seats one fills. It means that people love you and your work, and now they want to go and experience it. That's important."

Aamir, these days, is also enjoying a fan base in China. He is basking in the success of his super-hit films, Dangal and Secret Superstar. Both the films have been huge blockbusters and have broken box-office records, not just in India but also in China.

Talking about his popularity in China, he said, "My popularity in China happened by accident. Not many people know that it all started with 3 Idiots (2009), which reached Chinese homes through piracy. I guess they really related with the subject of the education system. Then they followed my work, including PK, and even the TV show Satyamev Jayate. When Dangal released in China, they already knew me and my work."

"Also, the reason why the films did such business in China is the sheer number of screens. In India, we have around 5,000 theatres, while in China there are 45,000. Even though there isn’t as much difference in the population of the two countries (approx 1.35 billion in India and 1.4 billion in China). I play a cameo in Secret Superstar, even then the film was released by the exhibitors in 11,000 theatres in China. Just imagine the scale," added Khan.

Currently, Aamir is busy with the shoot of Thugs of Hindostan.
