As soon as the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister was dropped online, while fans rejoiced Anupam Kher’s portrayal of Manmohan Singh, a certain section of the society was obviously not so happy. Yes, the film is being criticised by the Congress party for distorting the facts and “incorrect representation of the facts” and Maharashtra Youth Congress also asserted that if it is released without prior screening for their office bearers, they will resort to “other options” to ensure that the film doesn’t release in theatres.

Since the film revolves around former Prime Minster Manmohan Singh’s tenure as PM, the film has drawn a lot of flak, but amid the controversies, the lead actor of the film, Anupam Kher, remains unfazed. In an interview, Anupam Kher said, “An actor's job is to act, the filmmaker's job is to make a film and take it to the people and it's the job of these organisations to protest. So, we should not give so much of importance to them.”

But amidst all the controversies revolving around the film, actors and filmmakers are going all out to support the film and the National Award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar told ANI, “These agitations are uncalled for, especially when we talk about freedom of expression. It's just the trailer that has been released and people are already agitated about it,” adding, “The same thing happened with my film 'Indu Sarkar' last year, which was based on emergency. This is not fair if we talk about democracy. There should be freedom of expression.”

The political drama, which will release on January 11, 2019, is directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, and the film is based on facts as chronicled in a book by Sanjaya Baru, Manmohan Singh's media advisor between 2004 and 2008.

One thing for sure, no one respects artistic freedom and interpretation. I couldn't give a hoot if its misrepresentation of facts or not. Watch the movie, do your own research and then reach a conclusion. Just closing your eyes to people's perception of things is NOT a long term solution.

Summer Rose, i would have agreed to you. If they didnt name the movie with such controversial title of the movie.
Can you imagine a title movie for Padmavati as Doubtful Padmavati .. Imagine what would have happened? .... A man who has done little or something for the country has done something yet to be portrait as "Accident PM" is shameful not to the artistic world but to the whole country itself!

We still don't know what the "accidental" part of the title means until we see the movie. Lets watch it and then comment on whether the title is fitting or not. Who knows, it could even be a compliment or something stated in sarcasm that we'll only get after watching the movie. Thing is, we just don't know, but once we do we are free to comment on whether the title is shameful or not.

why dont you create a movie on MODI with note ban and his travelling .. even the newspaper TELEGRAPH made a remark on it ..

Never expected such a low respect for Anupam.. Definitely Boycotting your movie! the title of the movie itself is a shame, bcoz Manmohan Singh isnt a person to make noise and scream like Modi DOESNT MEAN YOU MOCK HIM.. that isnt freedom of Speech it is known as Abuse of someone's Privacy!!
