Actor Liam Neeson has found himself in the middle of an ugly row after his racist remarks about wanting to once kill a random black man who had raped his friend years ago were recently published. Neeson's comments led to his latest film's red carpet being cancelled in New York amidst the ugly row. Neeson's film Cold Pursuit's red carpet was pulled two hours before it was scheduled to happen. As per reports, organisers of the red carpet event said there would be no photographs or interviews at the New York City showing.

Neeson's remarked sparked a public outcry. However, the actor denied that he was racist. Instead, he said that he wanted to start a wider dialogue about racism, reported BBC. The incident took place when Neeson was promoting 'Cold Pursuit', a revenge thriller. According to reports, Neeson said that he had come back from a trip abroad when his friend informed him about the tragic incident. The actor went on to use racially offensive language about the attacker. 

BBC report quoted Neeson as saying, "She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way. But my immediate reaction was... I asked, did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person."

 

 

He added, "I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I'd be approached by somebody - I'm ashamed to say that - and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [uses air quotes with fingers] 'black bastard' would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him." 

Neeson's remarks cause widespread outcry and the actor clarified his statement in a TV show and said, "I'm not racist." The actor also added that his intentions were "to talk and open up".
