On December 20, 2014 Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar had participated in a Roast with members of AIB for a charity event. Celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and others had attended the event.
The event was a massive hit and collected a grand sum of money for charity, however the obscene remarks made during the show offended many. The video of the roast went viral and irked many with its below-the-belt content.
In February 2015, a Mumbai court had ordered the police to file FIRs against 10 celebs including Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and others, since all of them participated in the roast in an active or passive capacity. Santosh Dundkar had filed a complaint in 2015 alleging that the roast was ‘vulgar, obscene…pornographic’, after which the FIR was registered.
The Bombay High Court had then granted interim relief to all the accused then. However, the court has now denied interim relief to Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
A bench of justices R.M. Savant and Sarang Kotwal directed the lawyers of the actors to serve a copy of their plea to one of the complainants in the case.
The actors had requested the court to direct, by way of interim relief, the Mumbai and Pune police officials to refrain from taking any coercive action against them.
The court, however, said that it will consider the prayer only after the complainant was provided a copy of the petition. The next hearing is scheduled for April 3, 2018.
