Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: If you apply makeup that doesn't mean you don't have brains

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan said in an interview that women should not judge each other. The actor also said that judge because someone applies makeup doesn't mean they don't have a brain. Read on.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival even this year. This was her 17th appearance at the Cannes.

The blue-eyed beauty impressed everyone with her wonderful appearances. Her daughter Aaradhya also accompanied her and the mother-daughter duo had a great time together.

In an interview, Aishwarya said that women should not judge each other. She states, "We as women need to stop judging each other. If you apply makeup that doesn't mean you don't have brains. It doesn't mean you lack in substance. It does not meant

that you are not sensitive or compassionate."

She added, "At the same

time, if you choose not to use make up, it doesn't mean you are a disinterested person or a person lacking in colour. Or that you are brainy just because you don't put make up. Or that you are too serious and not a fun-loving person."

82 women at the French Riviera protested against the gender inequity in the film industry. It was led by Competition jury chairperson Cate Blanchett and Agnes Varda.

About the same, the Guru actor said, "We witnessed such an incredible moment with 82 women from the cinema together on the red carpet, representing all of us. I wish I was called but that's the number they wanted in order to represent the comparison between the number of female directors and 1600 male directors whose films are being shown at Cannes. We, as women want, that number to change."

That's quite honest.

You cant compare Sush and Ash it's like comparing apples to oranges..

Why even compare? Both Sushmita and Aishwarya have spoken against this comparison and rivalry created by media. Aishwarya is speaking against stereotypes and how women shouldn't judge each other.

This is true, I know of one of my friend who is beautiful and very attractive and she will wear glasses at office so that people will take her seriously as no one knows she was at the top of her class, went to the top engg and MBA schools as is highly intelligent ...but people cannoy marry beauty and brains together ...

Plenty of women are beautiful and smart. And taken seriously. If one talks like Aishwarya does, hard to take that person seriously.

Only if u were intelligent enough to understand. :)

Go back to school and get educated.

Crazy woman!

Forgot to take ur meds? Calm down.

Really very well said, Aishwarya. I hate it when people stereotype others.

Thanks Aish for saying the truth and shutting down ur detractors.

she was ignored at cannes no one let her to speak as much as before so coming back to homeland she started preaching

Anyone with a brain knows this interview was done in Cannes and also she was a part of the Worth It interview with Helen Mirren. Plus she was included in the best dressed lists. So she wasn't ignored at Cannes. :)

BRAVO! She's right! I'm sorry, but EVERY entertainment personality MALE or Female wears makeup in most appearances. I'm glad she finally said it.

Then use that brain and stop so called acting or whatever you do in the movies.

She used that brain and rightly chose acting and movies. :)

Yes but if you ALWAYS wear makeup even on your own father’s funeral, if you have never been spotted without makeup in the last decade, that means you don’t have self confidence and need a therapist, specially if you have a daughter and you are going to teach her about how to be confidant about her look.

It was the 13th day ritual, not funeral, duh! Nobody could see her face properly at her father's funeral.

i dont believe that i was not called for 'I wish I was called for 82', these people just want money but wont represent

Like her or not, you have to admit she is telling the truth. Us girls need to stick together, but instead of doing that, we throw the first stone and gives men a standing ovation everytime they ridicule another woman.

Nicely said by her.

Perceptions are formed more on what u speak/how u speak . Sushmita & Lara are both articulate ,cultivated ladies - which stands out inspite of make up & all.

She actually has a point. People make perceptions based on looks and even success. The whole perception that Aishwarya is cold is because of her beauty. To strangers, her beauty could be intimidating and she might look unapproachable. Also, Successful women get more hate in any profession. Neither Sushmita nor Lara are as successful, and not as much in public eye. If Sushmita was a bigger star of the two, i'm pretty sure she'd be hated more. Having said that, Sushmita is way more articulate than Aishwarya for sure. There is a reason she won the crown.

I agree that beauty can be over powering , but personality will come through too if u really have grey cells up there . There was this former Miss India called Manpreet Brar who was not the most beautiful but was the most articulate as in she was aware of contemporary happenings around the world , had an opinion & could converse intelligently on various topics . Sushmita screwed it up by making news more for her men over work. I honestly thought Lara would do better than PC when she won the Gladrags contest . Aishwariya was stunningly beautiful ,she still is but we as the public don't really get to see her speak much
on different topics (perhaps because she is a private person or wants to avoid controversies ) . In the end personality lasts . So many industrialists land up marrying beautiful actresses & the marriage crashes because they have nothing in common ( ex Mumtaz ) .

They're both articulate. Having said that, few are crowned primarily on their public speaking skills.

What rubbish

Bravo..well thing said by Mrs Aishwarya rai bachchan.we r proud of u .

It happens that when you use the brain sometimes there is no time to put on makeup, I do not know why it defends itself if pretty girls are always "lessening" the nerdy girls, pointing them to ugly.

Where in this interview did she point anyone as ugly?? She's speaking against stereotypes.

PV post this simple reply please.

lol. she reads every comment on pinkvilla. now I am damn sure that she is the one who replies every negative comment.

Wake up and smell the coffee. :)

Whatever helps u sleep at night.
