From Amitabh Bachchan to Akshay Kumar, Bollywood is all praise for sprinter Dutee Chand's historic 100m gold

India's sporting history was etched with two memorable events on Wednesday. While the Men In Blue's Cricket World Cup campaign came to a end after New Zealand defeated them in the semi-final match, athlete Dutee Chand held the Indian flag flying up high. The 23-year-old sprinter created history when she clocked her best timing in the 100 meter race at the Universiade, the World University Games in Naples. Dutee added another feather to her hat and became the first Indian sprinter to win a gold at this race. 

Dutee, who recently became India's first openly-gay athlete,  gave Indians a whole lot more to cheer about with her thunderous victory. Netizens flooded social media to wish the track star and lauded her timing of 11.32 seconds. Dutee was competing against eight other athletes and faced a tough competition from Del Ponte of Switzerland who finished just behind Dutee clocking in at 11.33 seconds. Apart from Dutee, 19-year-old Hima Das had grabbed the top position in 400m in the World Junior Athletics Championships last year. 

From Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi to superstar Amitabh Bachchan, celebrities also took to Twitter to wish Dutee Chand for her spectacular run. Wishing Dutee, Big B shared, "another proud moment for INDIA .. congratulations !! INDIAN pride."  Whereas, Ayushmann Khurrana revealed he had 'goosebumps' when he watched Dutee in her best form.

Akshay Kumar wrote, "Heartiest congratulations @DuteeChand for becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win a 100m gold at the World Universiade and creating history...fastest woman of India indeed!"
