One of the biggest superhit films of Hindi cinema, Sholay completed 44 years on 15th August this year. It is undoubtedly one of the most loved and watched classics and even after all these years, the dialogues are still extremely famous and fresh in our minds. Starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Amjad Khan and Jaya Bhaduri, Sholay was the highest-grossing Indian film ever at the time. The action adventure was directed by Ramesh Sippy, produced by his father G. P. Sippy and written by Salim-Javed.

It followed the life of two notorious criminals named Veeru, played by Dharam paaji, and Jai, played by Big B. The best friends are hired by ex-police officer Thakur Baldev Singh, portrayed by Sanjeev, to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh, played by Amjad Khan. While Hema played the role of Basanti, Veeru’s love interest, Jaya portrayed the character of Radha, Thakur's daughter-in-law and Jai's love interest. Interestingly, the superhit initially received criticism and was declared ‘a gravely flawed attempt’.

Celebrating 44 years of the film, director Ramesh Sippy took to his social media handle to pen down a heartfelt note. He wrote: “It feels good to know that Sholay after 44 years is still loved and watched by all generations! I feel blessed !!!!”
