Director of the acclaimed film Sairat, Nagraj Manjule’s next project is Jhund. It is Manjule’s Hindi debut and stars Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. The film is a real life story based on underprivileged children who live in slums and how Amitabh Bachchan’s character builds a soccer team with these kids. The film will go on floors soon and is slated to release in 2019. Now, in the wake of the Me Too movement in India, the case against Nagraj Manjule by his ex-wife has come to fore.

Nagraj’s ex-wife Sunita has shared her story in an interview with The Quint. She has accused him of harassing her and forcing her to go through abortions. She has also alleged that he used to physically abuse her. Sunita now works as a house help and has shared that she was not given any property or alimony and was exploited financially too. Producer Savitaraj Hiremath’s statement reads as, “Nagraj ji’s divorce case with his wife is personal and has, in fact, even been settled. The case stands closed as of today. However, certain sections of the media have included Nagraj ji in the “#MeToo” category and are trying to show him in poor Light. But this not true. We, at the JHUND team, are aware of the matter and are clear on the stand that first of all there seems to be no case, leave alone one that fits in the # MeToo category.Further, we have internally checked the facts from the director and others and have found no basis for such allegations.”
