Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who was last seen on the big screen in Aanand L. Rai's Zero, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, has been away from films since a while. However, she is pretty active on social media and every now and then, shares sneak peeks from her personal and professional life. The actress is also an advocate of animal rights and has started a campaign demanding amendment of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

A recent gruesome incident shocked the nation when Worli-based stray dog named Lucky was brutally beaten up with sticks for taking shelter from the rains inside a residential building in Mumbai. Bollywood celebs such as John Abraham, Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Anushka among others, took to their social media handles to express their shock and lent support for Lucky. Unfortunately, he passed away this week because the incident caused paralysis and internal injuries.

Today, Anushka took to her Instagram account to start a campaign named #JusticeForAnimals demanding stricter laws against animal cruelty. Highlighting several inhumane cases of animal atrocities across the nation, the actress posted a heartfelt note which reads: “Lucky was not the only one who faced inhuman cruelty. There are several more cases of dogs being mercilessly attacked and killed across our country. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 needs to be amended to provide #JusticeForAnimals - we need immediate attention and action on this. There’s a need for #StricterLawsAgainstAnimalCruelty.”
