Anushka Sharma welcomes the POCSO Amendment Bill passed in Lok Sabha

Seeing it as a necessary step towards a positive outcome, Anushka expresses her views and welcomes the decision taken by the Government of India.

Always being vocal of her opinions, actress Anushka Sharma is known to stand her ground for anything that she strongly believes in. Recently, the Phillauri actor took to Twitter in order to embrace the POCSO-Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2019 passed in the Lok Sabha. Seeing it as a necessary step towards a positive outcome, Anushka expressed her views and welcomed the decision taken by the Government of India.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by the Women and Child Development Minister, Smriti Irani. Later, it was introduced in the Lok Sabha and approved. Reportedly, the amendment Bill has included a number of provisions to safeguard children from offenses of sexual assault and sexual harassment. It has also introduced the provision of a death penalty for aggravated penetrative sexual assault. It prescribes jail with a minimum of a 20-year sentence in some cases.

Anushka lauded the decision taken and went on to tweet, "The POCSO Amendment Bill was an absolutely necessary step in the right direction. Putting children’s safety in the absolute forefront should not be an option but a priority."
