Asha Parekh on marriage & how US professor turned her down: He said he has a girlfriend & I’ve come in the way

Who doesn’t know Asha Parekh because she was one of Bollywood’s favourite leading ladies and continues to be loved by one and all. From her films, songs to camaraderie with her co-stars, Asha Parekh was known for her acting prowess and love for films. During a recent interview, Asha Parekh opened up about her single life and how she was close to getting married but at the last minute, the man turned her down. We all know that one of the most versatile actresses of Hindi cinema, Asha Parekh, has lived single all her life and by self admission, she says that she is very happy being single. 

Now, the 77-year-old legendary actor, Asha Parekh dominated the silver screen through the 70s and still manages to be an inspiration for many and during a recent interview, Asha ji spoke about how she was close to getting married to a professor in the US but later, it turned out that the man already had a girlfriend. In the interview, Asha Parekh said that the guy broke the news to her in a cafe one night. “He turned to me and nonchalantly said, ‘I have a girlfriend and you’ve come in the way’. It completely caught me off guard. In a way, that was the final straw for me in this whole wedding business.”

Well, despite the day and age she lived in, Asha Parekh believed that self-respect is important than society's standards and that is why, she never succumbed to the societal pressures and her ideas and ideologies are what continues to inspire many of us. We all know Asha Parekh’s bond with veteran actress- Waheeda and Helen, and Asha ji says that over the years, she has discovered that she has “an adventurous soul and enjoys the adrenaline rush”. During the interview, Asha Parekh spoke about her bond with her friends, and just like all the milennials, Asha Parekh, too feels that one can never completely confide in their mothers or a sibling, but close friends are always there for you and never judge you.
