One of the biggest and most successful entertaining films of 2018 was Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Sanya Malhotra starrer Badhaai Ho. The film did extremely well at the box office and was a blockbuster success. The audiences loved the presentation of the concept of a middle-aged couple getting pregnant despite having two grown up kids. Ayushmann, Gajraj and Neena’s performances were highly applauded. The writers of the film, Shantanu Srivastava and Akshat Ghildial also received a nomination for ‘Best Original Story’.

However, the two have withdrawn their nomination from the filmfare awards 2019 post the inclusion of the screenwriter, Jyoti Kapoor’s name alongside them. The two released a statement on twitter and informed the reason behind doing so. The statement by Shantanu and Akshat mentioned that they would not like to share the award with someone who hasn’t worked on the film with them. The Badhaai Ho writers thought it would be better to lose the award than to share it with someone (Jyoti Kapoor) who hasn’t worked on Badhaai Ho.

The issue began after the screenwriter, Jyoti Kapoor’s name was included with Shantanu and Akshat in the award nominations. However, 4-5 days back, her name was dropped from the nominations. Post which, she demanded her name to be included in the award nominations as she claimed to have worked on the film. Post this, both Shantanu and Akshat decided to withdraw their name from the list of nominations for the Best Original Story of the Filmfare Awards 2019.
