Salman Khan has arrived with Bharat today. The Eid 2019 release stars the Bhaijaan of Bollywood paired opposite Katrina Kaif under the helm of Ali Abbas Zafar. The movie also sees Sunil Grover in a crucial role. The movie journeys through different stages of Bharat's life - both the country and the character - making it a unique Salman film. The movie uses political milestones, iconic sports events and Bollywood references to convey the story. Before we go ahead with the story, we warn you, there are spoilers from Bharat in this article.

Bharat uses India's victory at the 1983 World Cup, Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Shah Rukh Khan's early years in Bollywood to establish a timeline. While those were already an ode to politicians, cricketers and the actor, there were a few references from Shah Rukh, Aamir Khan and Sooraj Barjatya's films in the movie. Zafar subtly embeds a Shah Rukh reference in Bharat's years at the Russian circus.

A particular circus scene wherein Salman is seen riding through the Well of Death, Disha Patani is busy cracking a bet with the audience at the circus. The scene features a group of dwarfs. Disha is heard calling one of them as Zero, referring to Shah Rukh's latest release. SRK was seen playing a dwarf in the Aanand L Rai directorial. It is no secret that Salman was closely associated with the project. He was seen in a special song in the movie and there were also reports that Salman had hosted a group of dwarfs for a meal and requested them to support Zero.

The movie went on to make a not so subtle 3 Idiots reference. Movie buffs who've watched the Aamir Khan film will remember the whole black and white set up at Raju's (Sharman Joshi) home. An unmarried sister, a poverty-struck family and other elements of the life in the 70s. Zafar takes a cue from it and adds it to his movie. He incorporated the gist explained by Aamir in 3 Idiots into Bharat, which leaves you in splits.

Zafar also adds an element from one of Salman's older movies. Raise your hands if you remember the bus ride featuring the "ABCD" song from Hum Saath Saath Hai. Well, there is no similar song in the movie. But there is a bus journey where Salman's on-screen brother-in-law is riding the bus. While it is not an in-your-face reference, you can connect the dots to the Sooraj Barjatya films.
